Are you ready to make a real difference in your community? We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the team at the Nelson High Court & District Court as a Court Registry Officer. In this role, you'll be part of a close-knit, supportive team dedicated to the smooth and successful operation of the Court. Every day brings new challenges and the chance to work with a diverse range of people—including defendants, witnesses, families, Oranga Tamariki, lawyers, and police officers. You'll play a key part in ensuring justice is delivered efficiently and respectfully.

Responsibilities
  • Court Taking – Facilitate the smooth operation of the Court, including introducing Judges (in English and Te Reo Māori), working with them in the Courtroom and Chambers, managing jurors, and general administration of the Court.
  • Customer Service – Answer customer queries via face-to-face, phone, or email interactions in the onsite court customer service area or hub.
  • Case Management – Ensure files are accurate and up to date; substantial data entry is involved.

You will be able to demonstrate strong customer service skills, quality decision-making, be solutions-focused and have the personal confidence and resilience to adapt to a dynamic work environment. You will be able to communicate confidently with Judges within the courtroom and their chambers, as well as other members of the judiciary.

  • Highly organised – manage and re-prioritise tasks in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
  • Flexible and adaptable – respond quickly as new matters arise.
  • Detail-orientated and observant – ensure accuracy across processes and case information.
  • Able to multi-task – manage conflicting priorities and move between tasks quickly.
  • Willing to learn – legislation and court processes are always changing; maintain knowledge capital.
  • Resilient – may work on sensitive cases, sometimes at high volume.

Salary

Utu ā-tau/Salary – The remuneration band for this role is $59,729 to $80,794 – the appointing salary will be based on skills and experience.
