Job description

Our client is a renowed social services organisation who are looking for a committed professional to join their supportive residential services in Auckland, working with individuals navigating housing instability, addiction, and mental health challenges.

This is a full-time, two-year fixed-term role, based at their 84-bed transitional housing facility for both men and women, as well as a few off-site homes supporting single women.

As part of a multidisciplinary team—including caseworkers, support staff, and AOD clinicians—you’ll play a vital role in delivering compassionate, evidence-based care.

Your role will involve

  • Supporting residents (tangata) in their recovery journey and personal development
  • Conducting comprehensive assessments and provide one-on-one counselling
  • Facilitating group programmes focused on trauma, addiction, and behaviour change
  • Empowering residents to understand the links between trauma, addiction, and offending
  • Advocating strongly for client wellbeing and access to resources

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking someone with a strong foundation in counselling and an empathetic, culturally aware approach. You’ll need:

  • A Level 7 qualification in Mental Health, Addictions, or Social Services Counselling (or currently studying towards it)
  • Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma in Addictions/Mental Health Counselling preferred
  • Registration with a relevant body such as NZAC or DAPAANZ (or working toward registration)
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal
  • Experience writing clear, professional reports and maintaining records
  • Commitment to ethical and professional standards of counselling practice
  • Strong cultural competency and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles
  • Willingness to work within the values of the organisation
  • A full NZ driver’s licence

If you're adaptable, motivated, and committed to making a difference through a values-driven organisation, we’d love to hear from you. Be a part of transforming lives and shaping a better future.
