Job description

Corporate Finance – Associate Director / Manager

This role offers significant responsibility, visibility and the opportunity to help shape major investment, transaction, strategic decisions and business outcomes across New Zealand.

Be a catalyst for transformation. Shape the future at PwC New Zealand.

At PwC, our purpose is clear: to build trust in society and solve important problems.

This is a place to keep growing. You'll learn from the best, take on meaningful challenges, and make a lasting impact for our clients, our communities, and Aotearoa.

About the role

PwC is the number one M&A advisor in New Zealand and the only Big 4 firm in Aotearoa with a broad deal advisory capability across M&A, infrastructure, debt advisory, property and transaction services. This provides unique exposure to some of New Zealand's most important and complex transactions, strategic reviews and investment decisions.

Our Corporate Finance team is looking for a high-performing professional to join us in Christchurch. This role sits at the centre of PwC's work with business owners, corporates, investors and public-sector organisations, supporting clients through acquisitions, divestments, valuations, capital raising, strategic reviews and other significant investment and transaction decisions.

The team also supports selected infrastructure and capital-intensive assignments where our corporate finance, valuation and strategic advisory capabilities are relevant.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading complex financial analysis, valuation and modelling across M&A, strategy and transaction services engagements, working directly with clients and overseeing analyst teams to deliver clear, commercially robust insights.
  • Leading key aspects of transaction execution, including preparing transaction materials, coordinating due diligence, managing stakeholder workstreams and supporting negotiations through to completion.
  • Managing engagements to ensure they are delivered efficiently on time and within budget.
  • Articulating key issues, risks and opportunities to support senior stakeholders' investment and strategic decisions.
  • Developing, reviewing and presenting high-impact materials, including information memoranda, valuation reports, strategic options papers and client presentations.
  • Providing leadership, coaching and mentoring team members, fostering collaboration and exercising sound judgment in resolving or escalating complex commercial and financial matters.
  • Contributing to business development by identifying client needs, developing proposals and building trusted relationships across the South Island market.
  • Modelling PwC's commitment to excellence, integrity and professional standards across client and internal work.

At Associate Director level, you will also take greater responsibility for originating opportunities, leading client relationships and engagements, managing transaction processes and developing the team.

Skills you will bring or develop in this role
  • Typically, at least 5 years' relevant experience for appointment at Manager level, and at least 7 years' relevant experience for Associate Director level, gained in corporate finance, M&A, valuations, transaction services, strategy, investment banking or a related advisory field. Appointment level will reflect the candidate's experience, capability and demonstrated leadership.
  • Strong financial modelling, valuation and commercial analysis capability, including the ability to interpret and communicate key value drivers, transaction issues, risks and opportunities.
  • Practical experience in one or more of M&A execution, business valuations, capital raising, strategic advisory or financial due diligence.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; experience with macros is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to develop clear and compelling messages for senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated composure, sound judgment and leadership in complex or uncertain environments.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and technical excellence.
  • A CA or CFA qualification, completed or in progress, is desirable.

Candidates from diverse professional backgrounds are encouraged to apply, including those from Big 4 or boutique corporate finance and transaction advisory firms, investment banking, private equity, commercial banking, strategy consulting and relevant corporate development, investment or finance roles within industry.

PwC values non-traditional career paths and diverse experience — our top performers come from a wide range of backgrounds.

If you don't meet every requirement, we still want to hear from you - your skills and potential may be a great fit.
