Overview

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora - Whanganui District is grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

About the Role

We have positions available for midwives to commence practice within our supportive team of hospital midwives at Whanganui hospital in a permanent position, on a rotating roster. We have a comprehensive hospital orientation programme and a Midwife Clinical Coach for support and specific orientation to our maternity service.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Whanganui Hospital Maternity Unit is classed as a Secondary Maternity Facility, providing three birthing rooms - each have their own birthing pool and 11 inpatient bed units (14 beds in total).

Whanganui Hospital maternity service has a high normal birth rate, long history of water births, low intervention rates, low caesarean rates. We are a small, dedicated team with a commitment to providing women with optimal healthcare through women-centred and appropriate clinical assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation and education.

About you

You will hold the following attributes:

  • Registered Midwife with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC) in New Zealand
  • Strong clinical skills across antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Team-focused with a collaborative approach to working with colleagues and Lead Maternity Carers (LMCs)
  • Culturally competent, with a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity for Māori
  • Compassionate and empathetic, providing respectful, women- and whānau-centred care
  • Adaptable and resilient, able to work effectively in a dynamic hospital environment
