About the Role
Sushi Ball House is looking for an experienced Cook to join our team at our Ilam location in Christchurch. This is a full-time, permanent position suited for someone with proven experience in preparing and cooking Japanese cuisine.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Check ingredients and raw materials to ensure they meet quality and freshness standards
  • Operate and monitor cooking equipment such as grills, ovens, fryers, and rice cookers
  • Prepare and cook a variety of Japanese dishes, including hot and cold menu items
  • Taste and adjust seasonings during the cooking process to maintain flavour consistency
  • Plate meals in an appealing and accurate manner, adding sauces, garnishes, and side accompaniments as required
  • Follow food safety practices, including proper storage of ingredients in chilled or heated environments
  • Prepare meals to accommodate customer dietary needs or allergy requirements when requested
  • Assist in planning and updating menus, estimating ingredient quantities needed for service
  • May be involved in training or mentoring junior kitchen staff and apprentices in Japanese cooking techniques
Requirements:

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, and/or A relevant Level 4 qualification or higher in cookery
  • Proficiency in Japanese cooking, including preparation of sauces, use of traditional cooking methods, and operation of specialised cooking equipment
