Job summary

A mental health service provider in Nelson is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist for both telehealth and in-person services. This role offers flexibility in work type, with no on-call requirements and a supportive environment. Ideal candidates will have a Fellowship of RANZCP and experience in adult psychiatry, particularly in ADHD and trauma. Competitive remuneration exists for contractors and employees.

The Nelson Clinic – Nelson, New Zealand (Hybrid or Remote)

Work Type: Full-time or Part-time (0.2–1.0 FTE) | Contractor or Employee | No On-Call

Start Date: Flexible

The Nelson Clinic is a well-established, clinician-led private mental health service with a strong national reputation for quality, compassion, and innovation. Our multidisciplinary team includes psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, arts therapists, dietitians and social workers. We work collaboratively to provide trauma-informed, client-centered care across Aotearoa. From our base in sunny Nelson, we offer both in-person and telehealth services nationwide. We’re known for evidence-based practice, thoughtful clinical reporting, and excellent admin support that lets you focus on your patients.

Responsibilities
  • Adult psychiatric assessments and treatment
  • Adult ADHD diagnostic clarification and medication management
  • ACC Mental Injury Assessments
  • Sensitive Claims Service (SCS) Specialist & Functional Assessments
  • Neurodiversity assessments within our Neurodiversity Clinic
  • Brief follow-up care and collaborative shared-care with GPs
  • Induction, supervision, and professional development support as needed
Qualifications
  • Fellowship of RANZCP (or equivalent) and eligibility for MCNZ vocational registration
  • Current Annual Practicing Certificate and NZ medical indemnity
  • Permanent Residency or valid Work Visa (Immigration NZ)
  • Ideally 2+ years post-registration experience in adult psychiatry
  • Interest or experience in ADHD, trauma, or neurodiversity (support provided to grow this)
  • Telepsychiatry best practice skills and collaborative approach with GPs
  • Pragmatism, warmth, and crisp clinical documentation
