Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Waikato is seeking a Psychiatrist for the Puawai Midland Regional Forensic Mental Health Service. The role spans a wide range of psychiatry, from enduring mental illness to trauma, grief and distress, within a supportive team.

You will work within the Mental Health and Addictions Service, accredited for the RANZCP training scheme, and contribute to systemic change while developing cross-disciplinary relationships across regional services.

Qualifications

• A Psychiatrist who is vocationally registered or eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
• A versatile and flexible clinician who has a passion for working as part of a team.
• A person who is excited about and willing to contribute participate in service enhancement.
• A clinician who is passionate about eliminating health inequities.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality clinical services to tamariki, rangatahi and their whānau within Te Whatu Ora Waikato boundaries.
• As a clinical expert, you will ensure that the appropriate and current knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the area of psychiatry, are applied to clinical situations and team decision making.
• Participate in clinical partnership to ensure that tāngata whaiora and their whānau receive integrated, appropriate, effective, and efficient assessment and care.

About the Team/Service

We are the Mental Health and Addictions Service arm of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Waikato. Puawai Regional Forensic Mental Health Service supports people with moderate to severe mental illness whove had contact with the justice system across Te Manawa Taki. We provide secure inpatient careacute, sub-acute, rehabilitation, and transition wardsand community services to courts, prisons (Waikeria, Springhill, Tongariro), and tāngata whaiora. We work closely with Adult Services to ensure smooth transitions between inpatient and community settings.
