Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora invites applications for a Clinical Psychologist to join the Puawai Regional Forensic Psychiatric Prison team in Hamilton.

You will conduct comprehensive psychological assessments, formulating and delivering evidence-informed treatment, with opportunities to learn court reporting for matters of fitness to stand trial and CPMIPA dispositions.

Qualifications

• Be registered with the NZ Psychologists Board under the clinical scope.
• Support Māori health gains and achieving equitable health outcomes for Māori.
• Support Māori oversight and ownership of decision-making processes for Māori health equity.
• Exposure to tāngata whaiora in mental health settings; forensic experience is an asset.

• Develop holistic treatment plans and provide individual and group therapy with a multidisciplinary team.
• Develop informed psychological formulations based on assessments.

About the Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic Clinical Psychologist to join the Puawai Regional Forensic Psychiatric Prison team. You will conduct comprehensive psychological assessments, formulating, and implementing evidence-informed psychological treatment to tāngata whaiora. In addition, this position provides the opportunity to learn how to be a court report writer and to provide court reports to various courts in the Midland region re fitness to stand trial, insanity and for disposition under CPMIPA. There will be close supervision and oversight for this part of the role until skills required were firmly embedded.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive psychological assessments including psychometric evaluations, risk assessments and therapeutic interventions.
• Develop collaborative holistic treatment plans and provide individual and group therapy in collaboration with other disciplines.
• Develop well informed psychological formulations based on comprehensive assessments.
• Provide clinical supervision, consultation and advice to the multidisciplinary team.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position will be based on experience and in line with the APEX Psychologists Collective Agreement or the PSA Allied, Public Health, Scientific and Technical Collective Agreement. Additional benefits include kiwisaver contributions (if eligible), professional development and wellness support.

About you

• Be registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board under the clinical scope with a current annual practicing certificate.
• Support the pursuit of Māori health gains as well as achieving equitable health outcomes for Māori.
• Support Māori oversight and ownership of decision‑making processes necessary to achieve Māori health equity.
• Support the expression of hauora Māori models of care and mātauranga Māori.
• Have knowledge of and experience working with tāngata whaiora in mental health settings.
• Prior experience with forensic clients or in the correctional system would be an asset.
• As the position requires regular travelling to the prisons, you will need to hold a current drivers licence.
