Placements24 is seeking a Construction Safety Officer to oversee safety across Queenstown construction sites. You will develop and enforce safety policies, conduct trainings, and drive a strong safety culture in line with OHS Act requirements.

The role focuses on hazard identification, site inspections, and proactive risk mitigation to ensure incident-free project delivery in the Queenstown area.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent entity within the construction sector, requires a dedicated and knowledgeable Construction Safety Officer to ensure a safe and healthy working environment across their projects in Queenstown, Eastern Cape. This crucial role involves the development, implementation, and enforcement of comprehensive safety policies and procedures in compliance with all relevant legislation and industry best practices. The ideal candidate will be proactive in identifying potential hazards, conducting safety inspections, and providing training to site personnel. You will be instrumental in fostering a strong safety culture on site, minimizing risks and preventing accidents. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage site-specific safety management plans.
• Conduct regular site safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
• Deliver safety induction training to all new site personnel and visitors.
• Ensure all construction activities comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act) and other relevant regulations in Eastern Cape.
• Maintain safety records, registers, and documentation.
• Promote a positive safety culture throughout the project site.
• Advise management and site personnel on safety matters and best practices.
• Ensure the proper use and maintenance of safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and subcontractors on safety-related issues.

Requirements

• Relevant Safety Qualification (e.g., SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, NOSA Diploma).
• Registered with a relevant professional body (e.g., SAIOSH).
• Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Safety Officer specifically within the construction industry.
• In-depth knowledge of South African OHS Act and construction safety regulations.
• Experience working on construction sites in the Queenstown area or similar regional environments is advantageous.
• Excellent understanding of risk assessment and hazard identification techniques.
• Strong training and presentation skills.
• Good communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
• Ability to work independently and make informed decisions regarding safety matters.
• Proficiency in safety management software is a plus.
