Through science, learning & training, and strengthening our relationship with Te Ao Māori, we strive for excellence in animal care & welfare, conserve wildlife in the wild and nurture a lifelong connection with nature to enhance the well-being of our communities.
This role will bring people together to build a future for wildlife through the delivery of a range of conservation advocacy and engagement programmes and events. The Conservation Learning Facilitator will assist in the development, delivery, and evaluation of a range of conservation learning programmes to schools and other educational groups onsite, offsite, and online that drive impactful conservation and social outcomes. In addition, they will assist in the delivery of other conservation advocacy and engagement programmes and events to diverse audiences as required.
This dynamic role reports to the Duty Operations Manager - Conservation Learning and will work with five other Conservation Learning Facilitators team members.
In your first three months as a Conservation Learning Facilitator at Auckland Zoo, you'll be inducted into the Conservation Learning team and introduced to how the zoo operates. You'll shadow experienced facilitators to learn the range of education sessions we deliver and spend time reviewing lesson plans to upskill on our programmes. As your confidence grows, you'll begin running sessions independently. You'll also support key administrative tasks that help organise school visits, gaining insight into both the delivery and coordination of our conservation education work.

You are passionate about wildlife and care deeply about the world around you. You enjoy applying your knowledge and experience in learning and engagement to a wildlife conservation mission. You are confident presenting in front of a group and bring a range of teaching methods. You love connecting and building relationships with diverse audiences on environmental issues. You thrive in a varied working environment – from one of our learning spaces, out in the zoo, in the community and online. You are knowledgeable, empathetic, resilient and remain solution focussed. You have proven knowledge and experience in implementing the New Zealand Curriculum or equivalent educational curricula. It would be advantageous if you have experience teaching at a high school level.
Qualification requirements:
Please note: The role is 40 hours per week. This role requires flexible working, including some evening and weekend work, which may include public holidays as required to manage and deliver the role’s portfolio.
