Job summary

Hamilton City Council is seeking a Compliance Officer within the Resource Recovery Team to drive monitoring, auditing and compliance across waste services. You will help safeguard public health, support environmental sustainability, and ensure bylaws and legislations are followed with meticulous attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Science or Engineering.
• At least three years’ experience in an environmental, commercial, industrial, or allied field.
• Proven leadership skills and ability to drive change.
• Understanding of municipal solid waste systems.
• Understanding of waste minimisation principles.
• Experience implementing plans, policies and bylaws.
• Experience with monitoring and auditing to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Knowledge of enforcement action processes.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload.
• Experience in local government is preferred.

Join Hamilton City Council's Resource Recovery Team as a Compliance Officer, where you'll play a key role in ensuring compliance requirements are completed accurately and on time. Working within our Infrastructure and Assets Group, you'll help safeguard public health, support environmental sustainability, and contribute to the effective management of our waste services.

In this varied role, you'll undertake monitoring, auditing, and compliance activities to ensure alignment with Council policies, plans, bylaws, and legislative requirements. Qualifications and experience:

• Tertiary qualification within Science or Engineering disciplines.
• At least three years’ experience in an environmental, commercial, industrial, or other closely allied field of work
• A proven track record of thinking differently, acting with integrity, working together and making it happen.
• Proven leadership skills with demonstrated ability to articulate the corporate vision and take people on a change journey
• Understanding of municipal solid waste systems
• Understanding of waste minimisation principles
• Experience in the implementation of plans, policies and bylaws.
• Experience with monitoring and auditing of processes to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
• Working knowledge of enforcement action processes.
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders (internal and external)
• Ability to operate independently, anticipate requirements and monitor workload
• Experience working in local government (preferred, but not essential).
