Job description

About the role

Auckland Airport is seeking three community representatives to join our Aircraft Noise Community Consultative Group (ANCCG).

Established under the Auckland Unitary Plan, the ANCCG plays an important role in enabling community engagement with Auckland Airport on matters relating to aircraft noise. ANCCG membership is drawn from elected members of the Council and Local Boards, representatives of industry, mana whenua, and the community. Community representation is essential to the operation of the group.

The ANCCG meets four times per year, with the option to attend either in person or online.

The roles are for a term of three years.

Residence within South Auckland is preferred and at least two community representatives must live within the area of benefit. The area of benefit is defined as the long term predicted noise contours that can be viewed via Auckland Council’s Unitary Plan Viewer.

Your key responsibilities are:

  • Participate fully as a member of the ANCCG, including quarterly meetings.
  • Provide a community voice to inform considerations and recommendations, including
  • on matters like the Noise Reduction Programme, complaint process, and online resources/information.
  • Liaise with individual residents who hold concerns regarding aircraft noise as required or when requested by the ANCCG Independent Chair.
  • Develop and maintain constructive, progressive and “win together” thinking-based relationships with the Independent Chair and members of the ANCCG.
  • Role model collaborative, respectful conversations and engagement.
  • Adhere to the ANCCG Code of Conduct.

What you’ll bring to the role

  • An understanding of the affected community and its experience of aircraft noise.
  • Experience representing the interests of community members, participating in consultative groups or serving on committees, including involvement with voluntary organisations or vulnerable communities.
  • Connection with South Auckland communities and networks.
  • Experience with regulatory environments, resource management, local government, the aviation sector and/or associated business and industry is desirable.
  • An understanding of aircraft and flight tracks either as a pilot or air traffic controller or other equivalent role is desirable.

What to expect from the role:

  • Up to half a day of in person training, likely in December 2025.
  • Attendance at four meetings a year (commencing December 2025) with the option to appear either in-person or online (attendance in person is preferred).
  • You will be provided with a pre-reading pack before each meeting.
  • A three-year term with potential for subsequent terms.
  • An honorarium of $300 per meeting.
