Position Purpose:
As the Community Podiatrist you will work alongside Primary Health Care Providers and Community Partners to provide podiatry services to communities in need, with a focus on equitable delivery of podiatry services to Māori and Pacific communities.
The Community Podiatrist will focus on early interventions and preventative care to reduce the rate of hospital admissions and consequential health outcomes such as amputation whilst improving quality of life outcomes.
Position Objectives:
- Provide Podiatry Services to priority communities within the Southern Region.
- Improve and support preventative health outcomes through delivery of podiatry services and workforce development in line with best practice standards.
- Reduce barriers to access through collaboration, coordination, and primary health care process development within the Southern Region.
- Work collaboratively with WellSouth teams to identify trends in population data to guide best practice in podiatry services and support communities to understand this data and achieve data sovereignty.
- Collaborate and partner with internal and external clinical teams to achieve agreed health targets
About you - To be successful in this role you will:
- Hold a Bachelor of Health Science in Podiatry or other equivalent qualification of this level.
- Have a current annual practicing certificate (Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2002 – “the Act”) and be registered with the Podiatrists Board of New Zealand or be eligible for registration.
- Five to six years podiatry work experience.
- Ability to provide diagnostic, preventative and rehabilitative treatment of conditions affecting the feet and lower limbs, including diabetic foot care.
- Working to complete Podiatry NZ, or other high-risk, foot education.
- Ability to deal with unexpected situations and crises while maintaining a professional manner.
- Experience in wound care, long term conditions, and working with priority communities (Māori, Pacific, and other) would be desirable.
- Effective interpersonal skills to establish good relationships with patients, families, and colleagues within the organisation.
