Job summary

Ventia is seeking a skilled Inside Plant Technician to support critical infrastructure across the power network. You will install, commission, test and maintain low-voltage power and communications systems within controlled environments.

You will work on copper and fibre optic cabling, interpret schematics, and troubleshoot complex circuits. A safety-focused mindset and ability to work at heights are beneficial for this hands-on role in New Zealand.

Qualifications

• Experience in installation and commissioning of low-voltage power systems.
• Knowledge of battery testing procedures.
• Exposure to fibre splicing and copper cabling installation.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
• Strong problem-solving and safety-focused mindset.

Responsibilities

• Install and commission low-voltage DC power systems and battery equipment.
• Deploy and commission transmission systems (OTN, MPLS, SDH, PDH).
• Test and commission inside plant communications equipment.
• Diagnose faults and troubleshoot DC power and communications systems.
• Install, splice, and terminate copper and fibre optic cabling.
• Update and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings and diagrams.
• Work at heights and handle ladder-related tasks safely (advantage).

Job description

Ventia is seeking skilled Communication Technicians – Inside Plant to support critical infrastructure across the power network. This role focuses on low voltage power systems and communications equipment within controlled environments.

About The Role

As an Inside Plant Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of communications and power systems that support essential network operations.

Your Day-to-day Will Include

• Installation and commissioning of low-voltage DC power systems, including battery testing and maintenance
• Deployment and commissioning of transmission systems (OTN, MPLS, SDH, PDH)
• Testing and commissioning of inside plant communications equipment
• Fault finding and troubleshooting across communications and DC power systems
• Installation, splicing, and termination of copper and fibre optic cabling
• Interpretation and updating of technical drawings, diagrams, and schematics
• Experience in Working at heights will be an advantage
• Electrical registration will be an advantage

About You

You’ll be a technically capable and safety-focused professional with experience in critical infrastructure, power, or telecommunications environments.
