Overview

We’re on the lookout for an experienced Communications Advisor – Digital & Social Media to help grow our impact online. You’ll join a tight-knit, creative team passionate about connecting people with nature and driving real change.

In this role, you’ll lead the charge on digital campaigns, shape our social media presence, and bring Forest & Bird’s stories to life across web and digital platforms. You’ll work closely with the Communications & Marketing Manager to craft strategy, create engaging content, and support conservation, advocacy, events, and fundraising initiatives. You’ll also help keep our website fresh, send regular updates to key supporters, and ensure our digital voice is strong, clear, and inspiring.

We’re looking for a natural visual communicator with over three years’ experience in a similar role, is digitally savvy, confident creating multimedia content, and passionate about protecting Aotearoa’s unique wildlife and their habitats. You’ll uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi, champion health and safety, and embody our commitment to conservation.

Forest & Bird is Aotearoa’s leading independent voice for nature. For over 100 years, we’ve been standing up for native species and wild places through bold advocacy, grassroots action, and hands-on conservation across the motu.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the charge on digital campaigns, shape our social media presence, and bring Forest & Bird’s stories to life across web and digital platforms.
  • Work closely with the Communications & Marketing Manager to craft strategy, create engaging content, and support conservation, advocacy, events, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Keep our website fresh, send regular updates to key supporters, and ensure our digital voice is strong, clear, and inspiring.
  • Lead projects effectively, take ownership, pay close attention to detail, support and collaborate with the team, resolve conflicts proactively, and bring a passion for nature conservation and environmental protection.
Qualifications
  • Three years of experience in communications and marketing, delivering awareness and engagement campaigns across multiple digital marketing channels
  • Experience in monitoring, tracking, and evaluating digital marketing channels
  • Project management skills
  • Strong copywriting and storytelling skills across communication channels
  • Ability to create and design a range of content formats that follow current digital marketing trends, e.g., short format video, graphic design
  • Experience managing relationships or working with external marketing agencies
  • Demonstrable experience managing websites and social media channels
  • A high level of computer literacy, specifically: experience working with web content management systems including a basic understanding of HTML; intermediate to advanced skills using the Microsoft 365 Suite – including SharePoint, Teams, and other relevant applications; experience working with third-party analytics tools
  • Ability to communicate a wide range of messages (sometimes complex) to diverse audiences in an accessible manner
  • Understanding of conservation issues and the ability to communicate them effectively
