Job summary

L’affare in Wellington is seeking a keen and enthusiastic Commis Chef to join our kitchen team at College Street. You’ll be part of a tight-knit crew with a passion for food and learning, supporting our Head Chef with seasonal dishes.

You’ll help with daily food prep, cabinet items, and some baking, while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation. This part-time role is 21 hours across 3–4 days, weekdays and weekends. All applicants must be NZ resident or hold NZ working visa.

The opportunity:

We are looking for a keen and enthusiastic Commis Chef to join our kitchen team in our College Street café. We’re a tight knit team, eager to find someone with a passion for food and a willingness to learn. We're looking for someone who has finished their training with experience in the kitchen and ready to learn more.

You'll be working in all aspects of the kitchen, including using your creativity to support our Head Chef with delicious new seasonal dishes. You'll prepare a range of cabinet food and menu items to a high standard, some baking will be required too. You’ll also complete daily food prepping, maintain our kitchen cleanliness and support the wider team when the pressure is on.

This is a part‑time position, working 3-4 days per week (21 hours). Availability to work weekdays and weekends.
