Qualifications

Summary

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team this role is critical in contributing to and implementing the business strategy of this well know national construction business to evolve their commercial construction division to become a leading tier two in the NZ market. You will be leading the QS team and provide the QS team with the oversight, support, training, and management, whilst ensuring the QS and estimating functions contribute to the achievement of the annual budget.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical support and assistance to the QS team and to provide training and develop of new team members. Performance reviews of team members.
  • Ensure the compilation and completion of accurate and timely estimates for tenders and contracts.
  • Oversee efficient documentation management and filing using Procore.
  • The management and development of all supporting IT systems, incorporating Procore to enable the efficient, accurate and smooth running of the business unit.
  • Ensure all tasks contribute to the successful delivery of tenders and project estimates.
  • Work closely with H&S, QA, the Construction team, sub-contractors, and suppliers to accurately create and plan new projects.
  • Ensure compliance with the monthly reporting timetable for all QS related tasks.
  • Uphold quality control for the project monthly reporting and overall cost reporting.
  • Produce a cash flow report on a fortnightly basis.
  • Regularly update QS workload forecast confirming any shortfalls in workload
  • Perform Head Contract reviews for all new Client’s and any changes to existing Contracts.
  • Ensure all projects are compliant with the contract conditions.
  • Assist with the development and continuous improvement of project delivery systems.
  • Be prepared to make the tough decisions when required and defend the business when and if needed.

You will have/be:

  • Minimum of 5 years demonstrable high-level experience with commercial construction projects over $10 million including management of medium sized teams.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in estimating/QS essential inclusive of project cost reports and budget management.
  • Diploma in Quantity Surveying (minimum) in commercial and / or residential estimating. Preferable BSc, RICS NZCQS or equivalent.
  • Strong working knowledge of contract management, especially NZS 3910, 3915 and 3916 contracts.
  • Strong working knowledge of the NZ Building Code, NZ Standards (including NZS3604:2011), and the land development/residential construction process.
  • Experience working with clients and subcontractors essential.
  • Proven Ability to influence and negotiate.
  • Pro-active, approachable, committed to enabling others to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Strong organisational & time management skills, including the ability to meet deadlines, make decisions, follow procedures, and manage own performance.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, show resilience and patience and negotiate effectively with stakeholders, to achieve targets in a high-volume delivery driven environment.
