The Opportunity
This is an operational role, you don't necessarily need to be a CA Accountant, however this is not an IT role.
Our client, a dynamic global business, is seeking a Commercial Analyst with operational focus to join their Christchurch-based team. This is an exciting opportunity to drive financial performance, support key decision-making, and contribute to impactful projects in a fast-paced environment. You have the chance to work across data and finance analytics whilst giving you a platform to play a crucial role in optimising operations and work closely with exposure to the NZ SLT.

The Role
Based primarily in the Christchurch office, with some flexibility due to the global nature of the business, you’ll report directly to senior finance and operations leaders. There are no direct reports.
Conducting 70-80% analytics work on data and financial metrics, including profit and loss (P&L) analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and supporting the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team.

  • Performing cost control, pricing analysis to ensure optimal pricing strategies, and evaluating sales performance.
  • Analysing return on investment (ROI) for various initiatives and projects.
  • Working on ad-hoc projects for the COO, contributing to operational improvements and strategic planning.
  • Utilising tools such as Power BI, DAX, and dimension tables to build and maintain data models.

Your Profile
To excel in this position, you’ll ideally have:

  • A strong finance background with experience in P&L management, forecasting, budgeting, cost control, pricing, sales analysis, and ROI evaluation.
  • Proficiency in analytics tools such as Power BI, DAX, and dimension tables.
  • A Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in Business Finance, Economics, or a related field (highly desirable).
  • The ability to work in a global, fast-paced environment with occasional long hours and flexibility.
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset to support cross-functional teams.
