Job summary

The Bay of Plenty Regional Council is looking for a Coastal Catchments professional based in Tauranga to drive water quality improvements and biodiversity protection in streams and coastal environments. This role involves direct engagement with rural communities, iwi, and landowners, and is not desk-bound.

Join a dedicated Coastal Catchments team and contribute to on-the-ground environmental projects, soil conservation, and community collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Degree in science, natural resource management, agriculture or related field.
  • Experience in land management, biodiversity management, and soil & water conservation is valued.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with community members, landowners and iwi on projects that support sustainable land management.
  • Promote strategies to improve water quality, soil conservation and biodiversity.
  • Prepare contract specifications and oversee on-the-ground delivery of works.
  • Develop Environmental Programmes with landowners/occupiers and tangata whenua.
  • Provide timely, accurate advice to the community and stakeholders.
  • Support community groups and volunteers to protect important ecosystems.
