Job summary

Health Quality & Safety Commission Te Tāhū Hauora in Wellington is seeking an experienced Clinical Lead to shape the re-established Primary Care programme. This fixed-term role is 12 months, part-time (0.2–0.4 FTE) with flexible hybrid working and some travel.

You will provide clinical leadership across initiatives that improve safety and quality, work with the programme team and partners, and build trusted relationships with clinicians, communities and Māori providers to advance equitable

Qualifications

• Current Medical Council of New Zealand registration and Annual Practising Certificate.
• Strong credibility and experience within the New Zealand primary care sector.
• Experience leading or influencing system change through quality improvement or transformation.
• Knowledge of clinical governance and use of data for improvement.
• Experience with Māori providers, whānau and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

The role We are seeking an experienced Clinical lead to shape and support the Commission's re-establishment of a Primary care programme. This fixed-term role will oversee programme setup and early delivery while establishing the priorities, partnerships and requirements needed for long-term success. As part of our Primary care programme, you will provide expert clinical leadership across initiatives that improve safety and quality across the sector. You will work closely with a primary care programme team, providing clinical advice, support and alignment across workstreams, and help ensure a coordinated and clinically credible approach to delivery of the work. The role requires strong engagement across the primary care sector. You will help the Commission build and maintain trusted relationships with providers, clinicians, communities and other relevant stakeholders to understand and respond to health need. This role is focused on providing clinical leadership and expertise and does not include line management or programme management responsibilities.

In this role you will:

• Provide clinical leadership and strategic advice to shape programme priorities and quality improvement initiatives.
• Build strong relationships across primary care, the wider health system, and key sector stakeholders.
• Partner with Māori providers, iwi, hapū and health leaders to improve equitable health outcomes.
• Support evidence-based quality improvement, incorporating consumer and whānau perspectives into programme design and delivery.
• Represent the commission in sector engagement and act as a trusted voice on emerging primary care issues.

What you'll bring

• Current Medical Council of New Zealand registration and Annual Practising Certificate.
• Strong credibility and experience within the New Zealand primary care sector.
• Experience leading or influencing system change through quality improvement, service improvement or system transformation initiatives to improve outcomes.
• Sound knowledge and understanding of clinical governance, the complexity of the health and disability system, and the use of data and evidence to drive improvement.
• Demonstrated experience working with Māori providers, clinicians, whānau, iwi and communities, with an understanding of te ao Māori, Māori health models and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
• Experience presenting at conferences, forums or sector events.
• Proven experience leading stakeholder engagement, with the ability to build and maintain trusted relationships through consultation and partnership.
• Excellent communication, sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
