Qualifications

Job description

Develop your leadership skills as a Senior Registered Mental Health Nurse, in a Psychogeriatric Aged Care Unit. Based up in the winterless north this Monday to Friday role with some on-call responsibilities this role is ideal for a great work/life balance.

About the Role

Lead the team by managing a Psychogeriatric Unit (PGU), providing specialised care. This dynamic role involves full oversight of the PGU, including staff leadership, resource management, and ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality nursing and clinical care. You will also be the key liaison person with Te Whatu Ora, ensuring effective communication and collaboration to support resident wellbeing and service excellence.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Provide strategic leadership and daily coordination of the PGU.
  • Represent the PGU in Health & Safety meetings and promote continuous improvement.
  • Manage staffing levels and shift allocations.
  • Support performance reviews and development of Healthcare Assistants.
  • Ensure effective communication with staff and families across all shifts.

Resident Care & Clinical Support

  • Oversee the activities programme to ensure residents are meaningfully engaged.
  • Lead the restraint minimisation portfolio to support safe, respectful care.
  • Complete interRAI assessments accurately and on time.
  • Prepare for and support Doctor's rounds with up-to-date clinical information.
  • Collaborate with the POPS team during weekly visits.

Quality, Compliance & Operations

  • Participate in audits to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Meet all contractual and organisational reporting requirements.

Experience Required

* Senior Registered Nurse with mental health experience preferably in the Aged Care sector
* Current APC
* Working knowledge of the Mental Health Compulsory Assessment and Treatment Act 1992
* InterRai training and experience in assessing cognitive function and behavioural changes.
* Proficiency in clinical administrative software system, electronic health records and general IT tools
