Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora - Southern in Auckland invites applications for the Clinical Charge Nurse - Community Nursing. You will lead the District Nursing service, drive equity and continuous improvement, and coordinate care in patients’ homes and community settings.

You’ll provide visible clinical and operational leadership, contribute to governance and quality, coach staff and strengthen multidisciplinary relationships while modelling culturally safe practice and Te Tiriti principles.

Qualifications

  • Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and an Annual Practising Certificate.
  • At least five years' post-registration nursing experience, ideally within District or Community Nursing, primary care, and/or acute clinical setting.
  • Current or previous leadership role is desired but not mandatory.
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification, or progress towards one.
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership, including the ability to coach, develop and support staff.
  • Strong clinical judgement, communication, relationship management and problem-solving skills.
  • A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, health equity and culturally safe practice.

Clinical Charge Nurse - Community Nursing

About the Role

As Clinical Charge Nurse for District Nursing, you will provide visible clinical and operational leadership to ensure safe, effective and person- and whānau-centred care is delivered in patients' homes and community settings. Working closely with the Charge Nurse Manager, you will coordinate daily service delivery, balance demand and capacity, support sound clinical decision-making, and foster an engaged, high-performing team.

You will contribute to clinical governance, patient safety, quality improvement and the consistent use of evidence-based practice. The role also includes coaching and developing staff, supporting performance, strengthening multidisciplinary relationships, and helping shape innovative models of community-based care.

About you

About the service

Adult Community Services includes Needs Assessment and Service Coordination, Allied Health, Community Rehabilitation, Intermediate Care, Mobility Solutions, Specialist Nursing and District Nursing. Approximately 230 clinical staff across these services work together to improve health outcomes and support people to remain well and independent in their communities.
