Maungatapu School is a unique school within Tauranga Moana with a rich history. We are a dual medium opportunity provider with a supportive, inclusive community that love their kura.

What we offer and focus

Our curriculum is centred around the strengths of our students. Our STEAM programme drives inquiry learning across the school. We deliver structured te reo Māori using digital technology to all our Y2 students and above. Our focus for the Y5–6 cohort is on effective pedagogy, particularly enhancing learning outcomes in mathematics. In 2026, we will separate our Y3–4 classes in alignment with the new curriculum phases.

Cohorts, class structure and population
  • Y1–2 and Y3–4 cohorts focus on teaching structured literacy and social development skills; in 2026, Y3–4 classes will be separated in alignment with the new curriculum phases.
  • Roll sits between 540 and 620 students each year.
  • About 100 students learn te reo Māori in full immersion class settings.
Responsibilities
