Job summary

Ministry of Health - Manatū Hauora in Wellington is seeking a Chief Advisor – Pae Ora to influence national health policy, strategy and system transformation at the highest levels. You will provide strategic leadership to strengthen policy, strategy and data insights to address health needs and improve Māori health outcomes.

You will work with leaders, health sector partners and stakeholders to create programs and approaches that drive system change toward pae ora (healthy futures), including

Qualifications

• Extensive senior leadership experience developing policy, strategy, or programmes that achieve meaningful outcomes for Māori and other population groups.
• Deep understanding of NZ health and disability system, including Māori health priorities, equity challenges, and emerging issues.
• Demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and partnership with groups to achieve lasting system change.
• Strong strategic, analytical, and systems-thinking skills to navigate complexity and provide evidence-based advice.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and expert advice to address health needs.
• Facilitate initiatives to build organisational capability to address health needs.
• Lead cross-sector work to monitor, evaluate and deliver Whiria te Ora, the Māori Health Strategy 2026.
