Chef - Holiday Inn Queenstown Frankton Road

We are looking for a friendly & energetic Chef to join our Grazie Kitchen team on full time basis!

Our kitchen is looking for someone who is detail orientated and can efficiently operate/multitask in a fast-paced environment.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within one of the best kitchens in the city. A successful person should be able to follow instructions and constructive criticism. Experience in using various ingredients and different cooking techniques is a plus with Italian and Indian cuisine experience preferred.

We want each plate/dish to be prepared according to our recipe and specifications to ensure a consistent product and guest experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • examining foodstuffs to ensure quality
  • regulating temperatures of ovens, grills and other cooking equipment
  • preparing and cooking food
  • seasoning food during cooking
  • portioning food, placing it on plates, and adding gravies, sauces and garnishes
  • storing food in temperature controlled facilities
  • preparing food to meet special dietary requirements
  • may plan menus and estimate food requirements
  • may train other kitchen staff and apprentices

Qualifications & experience

  • At least three years of hotel/events/restaurants experience in preparing, cooking and seasoning food
  • Qualifications relevant to the job preferred but not essential
  • We provide you with great training but you will need to be physically fit to be able to stand during your shift.

Other requirements

  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand
  • Proficiency in English
  • Knowledge of various cooking methods (sauté, grilling, baking, frying etc.)
  • Compliance with all sanitation procedures
  • Ability to stand on your feet for several hours
  • Your role will involve but is not limited to:
  • Fair knowledge of health & safety
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the cooking and storage areas
  • Dishwashing
  • Mise en place (basic food preparation, assisting the chefs)
  • Flexibility of working hours, wide availability
