We're looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join our passionate F&B team in our Dark Sky Diner. This role will be responsible for assisting the Head Chef/Kaitunu matua to create extraordinary culinary delights for our manuhiri (visitors), so if you have a love of kai (food) and baking then this might be the opportunity for you!

Our world-class Astronomy Centre on Takapō lakefront brings to life the science of stars and Tātai aroraki (Māori astronomy) through an immersive and engaging international experience. This experience is a world-first and compliments the range of outdoor experiences that we currently offer to our domestic and international visitors to the region.

Our purpose is to make the connection - with our customers, through our people, to our place and to Ngāi Tahu.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Head Chef/Kaitunu matua to create extraordinary culinary delights for visitors in the Dark Sky Diner.
  • Apply skills across baking and kitchen operations, and manage time effectively.
  • Maintain quality and consistency in food preparation and presentation.
  • Support the kitchen team in a fast-paced environment, staying cool under pressure.
  • Work shifts on weekdays, weekends and public holidays.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of three years' experience in a professional kitchen as a Sous Chef and/or NZ Diploma in Cookery (Level 5) or equivalent.
  • Has a range of skills in the kitchen from baking through to time management.
  • Eager to learn and correctly pronounce reo Māori names and terms.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
