About the RoleThe Acute MedicalAssessment Unit has an exciting leadership opportunity available for a seniornurse to lead the team as their Charge Nurse Manager.You will be responsible for the day to day running of the service, working incollaboration with Nursing and Service Leadership and other Team Leaders. Yourinterpersonal and organisational skills will be used to provide soundleadership to the team of Associate Charge Nurse Managers, Registered Nurses,Health Care Assistants and Ward Clerks. You will have a strong focus on qualitypatient care and be skilled at allocation of resources to achieve this.Your ability to work effectively under the guidance of the Medical NursingDirector to ensure financial and operational objectives are carried out in linewith the Health New Zealand vision is imperative to your success in this role.

About theService

Acute Medical Assessment is a 40 bed unit caring for a wide variety ofacutely unwell medical patients. Patients are admitted under the care ofGeneral Medicine to Acute Medical Assessment from the Emergency Department anddirect from the community for assessment and work up, and patients with ananticipated short length of stay are ideally held for early supporteddischarge. This makes for an extremely fast paced unit with many patientadmissions and transfers out to the wards each day.

About You

The Charge NurseManager role has a function that is both clinical and operational.

You will haveproven leadership ability, excellent interpersonal/communication skills, theability to work calmly under pressure, and motivation to work collaborativelyas part of a multidisciplinary team. Medical nursing experience, whilebeneficial, is not as essential as your ability to effectively lead and manageyour team.

We are looking for a dynamic, confident and competent Senior RegisteredNurse who will be responsible for supporting and enabling the provision ofquality nursing care for the patients and families/whanau within our care.

Skills andexperience

  • Experiencein a management role within Health New Zealand/ acute tertiary setting -Desirable
  • Holdspost graduate management qualification or working towards same - Essential
  • Demonstrated previous experience in the nursing specialty in anacute tertiary setting
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop and implement a nursing caredelivery system
  • Demonstrate a commitment to staff development and research basedpractice and a commitment to relevant professional development
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills including communication,negotiation and conflict resolution across all disciplines andoccupational groups
  • Excellent administrative, organisational and time management skills
  • Be computer literate and have the ability to expand on those skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial management in anoperational area
  • Have the vision and ability to accommodate and lead change
  • Have a commitment to Health New Zealand - s vision and direction
  • Registered with the NursingCouncil of New Zealand with a current Annual Practicing Certificate
