Playcentre Aotearoa invites applications for a Part-time Centre Coordinator. You will work with centre whānau and staff to build adult capability and leadership, ensuring high quality, whānau-led sessions across the Korokoro and Days Bay Playcentres.

You’ll support curriculum development, safety compliance, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi commitments while fostering a supportive, inclusive learning environment for tamariki and their whānau.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with whānau and staff.
  • Ability to guide and support adults in leadership and curriculum decisions.
  • Experience promoting whānau-led, child-led curriculum experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Developing whānau to be the first educators for tamariki with rich, child-led experiences.
  • Role-modelling and supporting high quality, whānau-led sessions.
  • Providing guidance on curriculum, adult education and health and safety to support session delivery.
  • Ensure sessions meet Health and Safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Recognise Te Tiriti o Waitangi and promote Māori cultural values within Playcentre sessions.

16 hours per week | Part-time | Starting 26 October 2026

Days Bay Playcentre

  • Tuesday 9.30am – 12.00pm
  • Wednesday 9.30am – 1.30pm

Korokoro Playcentre

  • Monday & Tuesday 9.15am – 12.45pm
  • Friday 9.15am – 11.45am

About the role:

Working in collaboration with centre whānau and other centre support staff, the Centre Coordinator focuses on building adult capability and confidence. This enables adults to progressively take greater leadership in sessions and centre responsibilities, supporting a whānau-led environment.

As the Person Responsible on session, this role provides high quality support and pedagogical guidance to Playcentre whānau. The Centre Coordinator ensures sessions and programmes reflect Playcentre Philosophy and enriches children’s learning and development.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing whānau to be the first and best educators for their tamariki by ensuring rich, meaningful, child-led curriculum experiences
  • Role-modelling and supporting the delivery of high quality, whānau-led sessions
  • Providing advice and support to centre whānau focusing on curriculum, adult education and health and safety to support session delivery
  • Ensure sessions meet regulatory and legislative requirements including Health and Safety obligations
  • Recognise the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how they relate to Playcentre and actively engage in promotion of Māori cultural values
About you:

You will be confident building and maintaining strong relationships, providing guidance and solutions with a centre-focused approach.

You will also have:

  • Passion for Playcentre philosophy and empowering whānau
  • Course 3 of the Playcentre Education Diploma or equivalent ECE Qualification Level 4+
  • Confidence using technology to support learning & administration
  • Strong knowledge of Te Whāriki, ECE regulations, and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Hold and maintain appropriate First Aid certification
  • NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa
