Havelock North Playcentre in Hawke's Bay is seeking a Centre Coordinator to work in collaboration with centre whānau and support staff. The role focuses on building adult capability and confidence, and providing pedagogical guidance to Playcentre whānau.

The position is part-time starting 12 October 2026, with sessions reflecting Playcentre philosophy. You will coordinate sessions, support curriculum delivery, and promote Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Te Whāriki, and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Centre Coordinator collaborates with whānau and support staff
• Must have Course 3 of Playcentre Education Diploma or ECE Level 4+
• Experience using technology to support learning and administration
• Knowledge of Te Whāriki, ECE regulations, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
• First Aid certification and NZ residency or valid NZ work visa

Responsibilities

• Develop whānau as first educators with rich, child-led curriculum experiences
• Role-model and deliver high-quality, whānau-led sessions
• Provide advice on curriculum, adult education and health and safety
• Ensure sessions meet regulatory and safety requirements

11.5 hours per week | Part-time | Starting 12 October 2026

• Monday, Tuesday & Thursday 9.15am - 12.15pm
• Friday 9.30am - 12.00pm
• Fixed termposition during term time only ending 18 December 2026.

About the role

Working in collaboration with centre whānau and other centre support staff, the Centre Coordinator focuses on building adult capability and confidence.

As the Person Responsible on session, this role provides high-quality support and pedagogical guidance to Playcentre whānau. The Centre Coordinator ensures sessions and programmes reflect Playcentre Philosophy and enriches children's learning and development.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Developing whānau to be the first and best educators for their tamariki by ensuring rich, meaningful, child-led curriculum experiences.
• Role-modelling and supporting the delivery of high quality, whānau-led sessions.
• Providing advice and support to centre whānau focusing on curriculum, adult education and health and safety to support session delivery.
• Ensure sessions meet regulatory and legislative requirements including Health and Safety obligations.
• Recognise the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how they relate to Playcentre and actively engage in promotion of Māori cultural values.

About you

You will be confident building and maintaining strong relationships, providing guidance and solutions with a centre-focused approach.

You will also have:

• Passion for Playcentre philosophy and empowering whānau
• Course 3 of the Playcentre Education Diploma or equivalent ECE Qualification Level 4+
• Confidence using technology to support learning & administration
• Strong knowledge of Te Whāriki, ECE regulations, and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
• Hold and maintain appropriate First Aid certification
• NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
