Casual District Nurse - Kapiti

Are you an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) seeking greater autonomy and working in an environment with a diverse range of patient care. We have casual opportunity available in our Kapiti District Nursing team.

District Nursing is a dynamic and evolving field, offering a multi-faceted role that supports patients in their homes and communities. We\'re looking for compassionate, adaptable RNs who thrive in autonomous practice and enjoy working collaboratively within a supportive team.

What we offer flexible casual shifts, morning: 8:00am - 4:30pm and afternoon: 1:30pm - 10:00pm

What we\'re looking for
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills

About the Team/Service/ Location

We\'re seeking Casual District Nurses to join our supportive nursing team, working out of the Community Health Service, Kapiti Health Centre, 35 Warrimoo Street, Paraparaumu.

District Nursing is a dynamic and evolving specialty. Our nurses play a vital role in supporting patients transitioning from hospital to home, and in working alongside GP practices to provide care in the community.

Delivering home-based interventions including:

  • Intravenous therapy
  • Palliative care
  • Wound care
  • Compression bandaging and Doppler assessments
  • Medication management
  • Stoma and incontinence care
  • Respiratory support and home oxygen therapy

Assessing patients for their personal care needs and developing care plans. Direction and delegation of the Health Care Assistants (HCAs) and collaborating the wider Community Health team to ensure safe, coordinated care.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A current Annual Practicing Certificate as a Registered Nurse with the NZ Nursing Council.
  • Previous experience in district nursing or a strong interest in community-based care
  • At least five years of broad clinical nursing experience
  • On the Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP), or willingness to work towards it
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with community healthcare providers
