Job summary

Department of Corrections NZ in Upper Hutt is seeking a Catering & Laundry Instructor for Rimutaka Prison. You will mentor men in a commercial kitchen, supervise practical training and help them achieve NZQA qualifications.

The role may include occasional laundry duties and on-site training at the National Learning Centre in Upper Hutt, supporting rehabilitation and reintegration while developing leaders. Applicants should have professional catering experience, NZQA or equivalent qualifications,

Qualifications

• Professional catering experience and mentoring mindset.
• London City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or equivalent qualifications.
• Experience in Kaupapa Maori or Pasifika environments preferred.
• Strong leadership and communication skills; valid NZ driver licence.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision and hands-on training in a commercial kitchen.
• Enable men to achieve NZQA qualifications through practical cooking and catering.
• Support laundry operations as part of the internal services team.
• Participate in rostered work and pre-employment checks.
