Job summary

Department of Corrections in Invercargill, South Island, seeks a dedicated Catering & Laundry Instructor to supervise practical training in a commercial kitchen and laundry setting, helping participants gain NZQA qualifications and build productive work habits for life after release.

You will deliver meals, corporate catering, and on-site training, with on-site and residential training at the National Learning Centre, and support reintegration through skill development.

Qualifications

• Professional catering industry experience.
• NZ Certificate in Cookery Level 4 or equivalent.
• Strong health and safety practices.
• Excellent communication and relationship building.
• Ability to motivate and develop staff.
• Culturally diverse settings and Te Tiriti o Waitangi awareness.
• Full NZ driver's licence or eligible to obtain one.
• Adult education or NZQA assessor experience is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision and practical training in a commercial kitchen.
• Oversee meal prep, delivery, and corporate catering tasks.
• Support laundry operations within the Internal Services team.
• Help learners achieve NZQA qualifications and develop work habits.
• Complete required training including custodial elements at the National Learning Centre.
