Ara Poutama Aotearoa - Department of Corrections is seeking two casual Community Work Supervisors to oversee up to eight individuals serving community work sentences. Positions are based in Wellington and Lower Hutt, with work days Tue–Sat and hours 7:30am–4pm. Travel within the Wellington District may be required.

Candidates should demonstrate cultural competence, problem solving and strong communication skills to support wellbeing and resilience in the community work context.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills, both spoken and written.

About the role

We are all about changing lives and creating pathways through meaningful Community Work projects. As a Community Work Supervisor, you will oversee and manage up to 8 men and women who are serving their community work sentences on meaningful projects at schools, reserves, community groups, Marae and churches - whatever the community needs. With a natural style to work collaboratively and great relationship management skills you will be someone who recognises the importance of the work Ara Poutama Aotearoa does. And as we enter into a new and exciting era with our Hōkai Rangi strategy, bring new ways of thinking to our complex and busy environment. We have two casual positions available. One is based out of our Wellington Community Corrections centre and the other is based out of Lower Hutt Community Corrections. These roles have the ability to work any days between Tuesday to Saturday. Hours of work are 7.30am - 4pm. You may also be required to complete training on a Monday. You will be employed as part of the Wellington District and you will be required to travel to other Service Centres within the Wellington District to support as needed.

We are looking for people who: have the ability to engage with all cultures understand the importance of Tikanga and Te Reo Māori within our unique settings have the ability to solve problems and work collaboratively are fresh critical thinkers, using curiosity and imagination to generate new ideas inspire others with enthusiasm and a take-action approach are passionate about supporting people to build confidence, resilience and wellbeing have excellent spoken and written communication skills. Community Work Supervisors come from a variety of backgrounds; from trades and farming to office jobs, retail, teaching and social agencies - so your experience could be just what we are looking for!

The benefits

The starting salary for this role is $62,908 ($30.24 p/hr) ranging up to $66,887 ($32.16 p/hr) (pro rata). This can increase through upskilling whilst in the role.
