Job summary

Otago Polytechnic in Cromwell is seeking a Carpentry Training Advisor to strengthen industry ties and guide learners through apprenticeship pathways.

You’ll build partnerships with employers, support learners, and promote vocational training to grow the region’s skilled workforce while upholding Te Tiriti obligations.

This role focuses on nurturing connections across the region, identifying opportunities, and contributing to business development in vocational education.

Qualifications

  • Experience in business development, stakeholder engagement, training advisory, workforce development, or a related field.
  • Strong relationship management skills and the ability to build trust with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience managing competing priorities and resolving challenges constructively.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting and coaching learners throughout their apprenticeship and training journey.
  • Building and maintaining productive relationships with employers, industry partners and training providers.
  • Guiding employers and learners through qualification pathways, requirements and support services.
  • Identifying and developing opportunities to grow apprenticeship and vocational training participation.
  • Promoting Otago Polytechnic programmes through networking, community engagement and industry events.
  • Monitoring learner progress and proactively addressing issues to support successful completion.
  • Managing documentation and administrative processes accurately and within required timeframes.
  • Gathering and sharing industry insights to inform future opportunities and workforce development initiatives.

As a Carpentry Training Advisor / Business Development professional, you'll act as a trusted advisor for ākonga, employers and training organisations throughout the apprenticeship and vocational learning journey. You'll help connect learning with industry, ensuring learners are supported to achieve their goals while employers are equipped to develop their future workforce.

This is a highly relationship-focused role where you'll work closely with employers, learners and stakeholders across the region to provide guidance, identify opportunities, and promote apprenticeship and vocational training pathways. You'll also contribute to business growth by developing new industry connections and supporting learner recruitment.

Key responsibilities include:

You are an effective relationship builder who enjoys working with a diverse range of people and understands how to balance the needs of learners, employers and education providers. You are organised, proactive, and comfortable navigating complex situations while maintaining a learner-centred approach.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

  • Experience in business development, stakeholder engagement, training advisory, workforce development, or a related field.
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, supporting or guiding others.
  • Strong relationship management skills and the ability to build trust with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience managing competing priorities and resolving challenges constructively.
  • Strong written, administrative and digital skills.
  • Cultural intelligence, including an understanding of Māori and Pasifika perspectives.
  • Commercial or industry experience within a relevant sector.
  • A commitment to learner success, wellbeing and positive outcomes.
