Job summary

Summerset Retirement Villages is seeking a Café Assistant for its Nelson Village. This casual, on-site role focuses on delivering friendly, high‑quality cafe service to residents and visitors, including coffee, cabinet food and light meals.

You will work with a welcoming team, providing barista services, handling cash and assisting with events while enjoying flexible shift options in a supportive community environment.

Qualifications

• Hospitality or cafe experience is preferred.
• Strong barista skills and customer service orientation.
• Ability to multitask in a busy cafe and adapt to shifts.
• Friendly, approachable and reliable with good communication.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, present and serve coffee and light meals to a high standard.
• Provide outstanding barista service and friendly interactions.
• Assist with catering for village events and resident functions.
• Handle cash and daily takings with accuracy.

Job Description

We believe that a great cup of coffee and a warm smile can brighten anyone’s day. We're more than just a café, we’re a community hub, a space for connection, and a team that supports and looks out for each other. We’re now looking for a Café Assistant for our Nelson Village who shares our love for people and hospitality.

Responsibilities

You’ll play a key role in delivering exceptional customer service and ensuring the smooth running of our café. From making great coffee to creating tasty cabinet food and light meals, you’ll help make our café a warm and welcoming place for residents, their families, and visitors. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Preparing, presenting, and serving food and drinks to a high standard
• Providing outstanding barista services
• Assisting with catering for village events and resident functions
• Handling cash and reconciling daily takings

This role is a casual role on a as and when needs basis.

Qualifications

• Previous hospitality or café experience
• Superb barista skills
• The ability to be flexible and pick up shifts across the week often with little notice
• A warm, friendly personality with great customer service skills
• Excellent communication and the ability to multitask
