Job summary

Downer Group is seeking a Cable Jointer to work across LV and HV jointing, installations, maintenance and fault work on Auckland’s network. The role emphasizes safety, quality and variety, with responsibilities across planned jobs and fault responses.

This full‑time position offers 40 hours weekly, overtime and night/away allowances, and opportunities for development within Downer’s Energy & Utilities division.

Qualifications

• You will bring a safety‑focused, self‑driven approach and strong technical capability.
• Registration and licensing as a Line Mechanic with active Practising Licence.
• HV/LV knowledge and high‑voltage cabling experience are essential.
• Strong planning, communication, and problem‑solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Jointing on LV and HV networks with installation, maintenance and fault work.
• Deliver safe, high‑quality outcomes across varied days, planned jobs and faults.
• Collaborate with crew and other trades to complete complex network tasks.

We offer full-time, permanent work with 40 hours guaranteed weekly, and penalty rates for overtime, and allowances for faults roster participation, nights and occasional aways.

We’re looking for a safety ‑ focused, self ‑ motivated Cable Jointer with strong technical capability and attention to quality.

You will bring:

• Relevant Line Mechanic Registration and current Practising Licence
• National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Cable Jointer – High Voltage) Level 4
• Sound knowledge of SMEI and Safe Practices for LV Electrical Work
• Detailed knowledge of LV/HV reticulation systems and HV operating and access permit procedures
• Experience installing HV primary equipment and associated cabling
• Strong planning, communication and problem ‑ solving skills
• Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment
