Kaicycle is seeking an Operations and Sales Coordinator to grow and maintain its low‑carbon food scrap collection and composting service in Wellington. You will coordinate daily collections, oversee onboarding, and support cyclists to deliver reliable weekly pickups.

Background:

Kaicycle is an urban farm and composting initiative based in Newtown, Te Whanganui-a-Tara, operating since 2015 - a climate justice project, working to develop a resilient food system, share knowledge and skills in regenerative Hua Parakore growing practices.

Our goal is to demonstrate how composting and urban farming can activate community spaces and localise food loops in our city. We believe reclaiming control of local food systems and creating sustainable models of working has transformational power for communities. We want to see urban farms and compost hubs in every suburb of Te Whanganui-a-Tara | Wellington!

We provide composting services to over 250 businesses and households in central Wellington, through bike-powered collection and drop-off models. All food waste is composted at our sites to make rich living compost, which is used on our urban farm, donated to other community projects and sold.

Works with: Kaicyclists, Kaicyclist Team Lead, Composting Operations Manager, Community Farm Managers, Governance Group

Role purpose

This role is responsible for expanding and maintaining Kaicycle’s customer base for its low-carbon, e-bike and e-van commercial food scrap collection and composting service in Wellington; coordinating the day-to-day operations of the collection service and the drop off network, acting as the main point of contact between customers and staff. Alongside the Kaicyclist Team Lead, managing and supporting the team of cyclists to ensure the collections are completed reliably and safely each week.

Core responsibilities
  • Sales & marketing: Develop digital campaign - create content (brochures, newsletters) - run local digital adverts - community outreach Prospect and acquire new customers (small businesses, corporate offices, local organisations and residents) for our weekly e-bike food scrap collection service.
  • Customer service: Manage the sales cycle from initial cold outreach to closing and onboarding. Pitch the unique value proposition of our low-carbon service, emphasizing waste diversion metrics and community impact reporting; champion the customer experience
  • Operations: Oversee service delivery; report health & safety incidents; identify and resolve hazards & risks; identify and implement operational improvements & efficiency gains
  • Team: Recruit, onboard and support cyclists (alongside the Kaicyclist Team Lead); coordinate staff updates & hui; work closely with the Kaicyclist Team Lead & Composting Operations Manager

  • Understanding of te reo Māori me ōnā tikanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Full drivers' licence (current and valid NZ or overseas licence)
Weekly schedule

There is flexibility over which days are worked across the week, although being present on collection days (Wednesdays & Thursdays) is helpful to support smooth operations. Some week-to-week variability is to be expected.
