Job summary

Laminex New Zealand, part of Fletcher Building, seeks a Business Development Manager to drive growth across residential and commercial construction in Christchurch. You will open new pathways, shape demand, and engage developers, architects, designers and builders to expand Laminex’s product adoption.

You will lead opportunity creation, align with specification and sales teams, and leverage your building industry knowledge to win strategic accounts and deliver measurable outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Experience in building, construction, interiors, or architectural industries with a proven track record.
  • Ability to build client relationships from scratch and grow strategic accounts.
  • Strong strategic and commercial acumen with data-driven insights.
  • Hunter mentality with proactive opportunity creation and sales pipeline development.
  • Technical understanding of building products and systems to discuss solutions with customers.
  • Excellent relationship-building with architects, designers, builders, developers, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborative approach across sales, marketing and specification teams.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, Salesforce and other digital tools.

  • Attend building industry events and specification sessions to generate new business.

This is a unique opportunity to open new pathways and shape primary demand, influence key decision makers, and elevate Laminex’s presence across residential and commercial projects.

About the Role:

As a Business Development Manager, you will step into a newly created, high-impact role where you will shape early demand across both the commercial and residential construction landscape. You will play a critical role in expanding the use of our current and emerging product range. You will be at the forefront of the market, engaging developers, architectural designers, quantity surveyors, and key influencers across the building and interiors landscape. This role plays a critical part in shaping product preference, championing innovation, and reinforcing our commitment to local manufacturing and sustainability.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and deliver primary demand strategy and growth by creating and capturing new business opportunities across residential and commercial sectors.
  • Deliver measurable growth and demonstrate influence across every stage of the customer and project journey Actively build and expand opportunity pipelines, collaborating with Specification and Sales team to progress projects through the funnel.
  • Analyse market trends, customer behaviour and industry shifts to refine strategy and strengthen Laminex’s market positioning.
  • Build strong engagement and preference for Laminex with key influencers including architects, builders, developers, designers, interior businesses and group home builder design teams.
  • Partner with Sales, Marketing and Category teams to maximise the impact of new product commercialisation, especially high-value, design led innovations.
  • Work closely with Specification Business Partners to deliver a seamless, full-service approach to generating new business across the entire Laminex product suite.
  • Attend building industry events, specification sessions, and networking opportunities.

What You’ll Bring

  • Previous experience within the building, construction, interiors, or architectural industry, with a proven track record of identifying, winning, and converting new business opportunities into measurable sales outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to build client relationships from scratch, develop new market opportunities, and grow strategic accounts through proactive business development activities.
  • Strong strategic and commercial acumen, with the ability to leverage market intelligence, industry trends, customer insights, and data-driven analysis to identify opportunities and translate them into growth strategies and tangible results.
  • A hunter mentality with a proactive and self-motivated approach to opening doors, building sales pipelines, generating demand, and creating opportunities in new and existing markets.
  • Strong technical understanding of building products and systems, or hands‑on trade experience, with the ability to confidently discuss technical solutions with customers.
  • Exceptional relationship‑building skills, with the ability to influence and engage architects, designers, builders, developers, and other key stakeholders.
  • A collaborative approach, working effectively across sales, marketing, and specification teams to deliver shared objectives and maximise market opportunities.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, Salesforce, and other digital tools to support pipeline management, reporting, market analysis, and business development activities.
