Job summary

RWA People in New Zealand is seeking a hands-on Digital Solutions Engineer who enjoys solving problems across software, automation and AI. You’ll own development from interpretation of business needs to deployment and support, balancing traditional coding with low-code platforms.

The role focuses on Node.js maintenance, building Power Apps/Power Automate solutions, and exploring Copilot/AI integrations with stakeholders, APIs and Azure services.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of relevant software development experience.
• Solid background with JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js.
• Exposure to Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps/Power Automate) and AI concepts welcomed.
• Experience with APIs, integrations or business apps is beneficial.
• Strong understanding of development practices, testing and deployment.

Are you a software developer looking for something a little different? Perhaps you've worked with Node.js in the past, have started exploring Microsoft Power Platform, and are interested in where AI could take your career next. If you want to broaden your development skills across software, automation and AI lets get you applying now.

We're working with an established NZ business that's investing in modernising its technology environment. They're looking for a hands-on Digital Solutions Engineer who enjoys solving problems, working across different technologies and finding practical ways to make business processes more efficient. This isn't a role where you're expected to be an expert in everything. Strong development fundamentals are important, but there's plenty of opportunity to grow your skills in Power Platform, Microsoft Copilot and emerging AI technologies.

The role

You'll join a collaborative IT team, working closely with the Application & Data Architect and stakeholders across the business as the sole developer.

It's a varied position combining traditional software development with low-code solutions, automation and AI initiatives. You'll have ownership of your work, from understanding business requirements through to development, deployment and ongoing support.

• Maintaining, troubleshooting and enhancing existing Node.js business applications, alongside developing new solutions where appropriate.
• Designing and building solutions using Microsoft Power Apps, Power Automate and associated technologies.
• Exploring opportunities to introduce Microsoft Copilot, AI agents and other AI-enabled solutions into the business.
• Working directly with stakeholders to understand their challenges and recommend practical technology solutions.
• Supporting application integrations, APIs and Azure-based services.
• Contributing to development standards, GitHub practices, testing, deployment and technical governance.
• Supporting existing applications and identifying opportunities to improve processes through automation.

The you

We're ideally looking for someone with around 3-5 years of relevant experience who has a solid software development background and enjoys learning new technologies.

You’ll Bring

• Good software development experience, ideally using JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Previous commercial experience with Node.js. You don't need to be using it currently, but should be comfortable getting back up to speed.
• Some practical exposure to Microsoft Power Platform, particularly Power Apps or Power Automate, with an interest in developing these skills further.
• A sound understanding of software development practices, including source control, testing and deployment.
• Experience working with APIs, integrations or business applications.
• An interest in AI technologies, particularly Microsoft Copilot and how these can be applied to real business challenges.
• The ability to work independently, communicate with stakeholders and take ownership of technical problems through to resolution.
• Experience with React, Express, Azure, SQL, GitHub, Dynamics 365 or Copilot Studio would be advantageous, but we're not expecting you to tick every box.
