Solutions Team – Christchurch, South Island

Established in 2014, Solutions Team Ltd delivers expert building compliance services across New Zealand. We are committed to working collaboratively with our clients to achieve practical, risk-based regulatory compliance, always focusing on the best possible outcomes.

Drawing on decades of experience in the building and construction sector, along with strong local government and industry networks, we provide cost-effective, high-quality solutions tailored to a wide range of needs.

Our services include building consent processing and inspections, technical training, and professional and management support. We work with councils, government agencies, construction companies, and private clients alike, and have built a strong reputation for professionalism, reliability, and quality service.

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Building Inspection Manager to join our Christchurch team. This is an exciting opportunity to step into an established leadership role, leading our Building Inspection team and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, consistent, and compliant building inspection services that meet legislative requirements, contractual obligations, and client expectations.

You will provide leadership, guidance, and technical support to our team of Building Control Officers (Inspectors), fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and exceptional customer service. A key focus of the role is ensuring inspection activities are delivered efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality assurance, audit readiness, and compliance with the Building Act, the Solutions Team Quality Management System, and IANZ accreditation requirements.

Beyond day-to-day operational leadership, you will be responsible for developing technical capability within the team through coaching, mentoring, and professional development. You will oversee workload planning and resource allocation to ensure inspection services are delivered effectively and within agreed service levels while maintaining strong relationships with Building Consent Authorities and other key stakeholders.

As a member of the leadership team, you will contribute to the strategic direction and continued success of Solutions Team. You will use operational insights and performance data to drive improvements, support business objectives, enhance client outcomes, and ensure Solutions Team continues to be a trusted provider of building inspection services across New Zealand.

About You

Success in this role comes from combining strong technical expertise with genuine leadership and a passion for developing people. You will be someone who leads by example, builds positive relationships, and is committed to delivering high-quality outcomes for clients, your team, and the wider business.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • At least five years' experience in a senior leadership role within a New Zealand building-related organisation.
  • Previous experience working within a Building Consent Authority (BCA) or a similar Local or Central Government building regulatory environment.
  • Qualifications that meet the requirements of BCA Regulation 18.
  • Current competency across both Residential and Commercial building categories.
  • Strong working knowledge of the New Zealand Building Act, Building Code, and associated Approved Documents, with the ability to confidently apply legislative requirements in practice.
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams, building capability, and fostering a positive, accountable culture.
  • Proven experience undertaking or overseeing building inspections, technical reviews, quality assurance, and audit processes.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage confidently with clients, regulators, stakeholders, and your team.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset, exceptional attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to delivering high-quality customer service.
  • Most importantly, you'll enjoy leading others, supporting continuous improvement, and contributing to a collaborative culture where people are empowered to do their best work every day.
Why Join Us?

This is an opportunity to join a well-established and growing organisation where your leadership will have a genuine impact. You will play a key role in shaping the success of our Building Inspection team, influencing how we deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients, our people, and the communities we serve.

If you are looking for a role where you can make meaningful decisions, develop high-performing people, and help drive the future direction of a respected organisation, we'd love to hear from you.

We offer an above-market salary package, a supportive and collaborative culture with a focus on healthy work-life balance. We are passionate about creating an environment where our people can do great work while still having time for the things that matter outside of work.

Our culture is built by people who genuinely enjoy working together. We support one another, celebrate successes, tackle challenges as a team, and don't take ourselves too seriously (although we do take our work seriously). It's a place where your ideas are valued, your contributions are recognised, and you'll be surrounded by good people who care about doing great work.

For the right candidate, relocation assistance may be available, making this an excellent opportunity for someone looking to make the move to Christchurch and join a thriving, forward-thinking team.
