Job summary

Timaru District Council are on the lookout for one Building Control Officer who can hit the ground running and ensure we meet our obligations under the Building Act 2004. You’ll bring a thorough understanding of the building code and industry standards, plus strong customer-focused skills to process and/or inspect building consents.

This permanent role is 40 hours per week, with an annual salary of $83,409.45 - $98,128.76. Applications close at 5:00pm on 10 August 2026.

Qualifications

• Understanding of the Building Act 2004 and building code.
• Ability to process and inspect building consents.
• Strong time management and customer service skills.

You’ll bring not only athorough understanding of the building code and industry standards, but alsoexceptional customer-focused skills. Most importantly we are after someone whois used to managing tight timeframes, quick off the mark and enjoys a bit ofbanter amongst the team.
