Job summary

Waikato Hospital in Hamilton seeks an experienced General Surgeon with Fellowship-level Breast and Oncoplastic training to cover a fixed-term parental leave. You will provide a broad General Surgery service and lead breast care within a multidisciplinary team across the Waikato region.

You will participate in dedicated clinics, operating lists, weekly breast MDMs and on-call duties, with opportunities to contribute to service improvement and teaching.

Qualifications

• Vocational registration in General Surgery with the MCNZ
• Fellowship-level training in Breast and Oncoplastic Surgery
• Experience in managing breadth of acute General Surgery presentations in a major hospital setting
• Excellent communication and collaborative working skills
• Current APC and medical indemnity cover
• Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in healthcare
• Ideally membership of BreastSurgANZ or equivalent post-fellowship breast surgical training
• Experience in implant-based breast reconstruction

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality elective and acute General Surgery services
• Assess and manage patients with benign and malignant breast disease
• Perform a broad range of breast surgical procedures including breast-conserving surgery, mastectomy, sentinel node surgery, and axillary dissection
• Participate in weekly breast multidisciplinary meetings and treatment planning
• Contribute to the acute General Surgery roster and dedicated acute theatre weeks
• Supervise and support fellows, registrars, house officers and medical students
• Participate in audit and quality improvement activities
• Foster collaboration, equity and clinical excellence
