Job summary

The Department of Conservation in Te Anau seeks a Ranger (Fixed Term 0.6FTE) to care for threatened and taonga native birds at Te Anau Bird Sanctuary. This hands-on role focuses on bird husbandry, welfare, and sanctuary upkeep, working with a small team to ensure high standards and a safe habitat for birds in our care.

You'll feed birds, maintain water supplies, perform site maintenance, pest and weed control, and follow biosecurity protocols.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Feed birds and maintain fresh water supplies daily.
• Undertake bird husbandry tasks and support animal welfare.
• Maintain aviaries, clean, water blast and provide enrichment.
• Carry out site maintenance: pest control, weed control, pruning.
• Follow biosecurity protocols for captive species management.
• Collaborate with colleagues to deliver daily work programmes.
