Job summary

Randstad is seeking a Senior Technical Specialist to lead AWS platform engineering for spatial and mapping data processing. You will drive CI/CD, DevOps practices, release management, and mentor developers.

The role focuses on modernising data workflows, APIs, and backend services, migrating core systems to a scalable AWS cloud. You will oversee production backend applications, serverless architectures, and secure delivery pipelines, while guiding architectural decisions and stakeholder

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree required and 5+ years of experience in cloud/backend roles.
• Proven AWS platform engineering experience with RDS/PostgreSQL, S3, Docker, AppStream.
• Experience leading architecture decisions and mentoring developers.
• Security-by-design and observability practices are expected.

Responsibilities

• Lead solution architecture decisions and set coding standards.
• Design, build, and support production backend apps and serverless pipelines.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Join a high-performing squad as a Senior Technical Specialist where AWS platform engineering meets cutting-edge spatial and mapping data processing. In this key role, you will lead solution decisions, drive CI/CD and DevOps practices, oversee release management, and mentor fellow developers. Own the modernisation of critical data-processing workflows, APIs, and backend services, transitioning core legacy systems to a secure, scalable AWS cloud environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead solution architecture decisions, set maintainable code standards, run code reviews, and upskill peer developers.
• Design, build, and support production backend applications, serverless architectures, and secure cloud pipelines.
• Build and maintain IaC and automated delivery pipelines while managing production releases and incident resolution.
• Modernise data processing workflows, optimise relational databases, and migrate legacy on-premises services to AWS.
• Apply security-by-design across infrastructure and code; establish observability, cost optimisation, and safe change management.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCES

• AWS & Cloud Architecture: Proven track record building and managing production applications using services like RDS/PostgreSQL, S3, Docker, and AppStream.
• Hands-on expertise with AWS CDK (TypeScript) and GitHub Actions to automate deployment and infrastructure.
• Strong background in PostgreSQL (schema design, query optimisation, migrations) alongside Python, Bash, or PowerShell scripting.
• Solid skills in modular design, API development, automated testing, performance tuning, and security-by-design principles.
• Ability to direct architectural decisions, mentor peers, and communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders.
• Desirable : React/TypeScript, legacy Windows Forms, SAFe frameworks, AI-assisted coding tools, or geospatial/GIS data experience.
