Job summary

The University of Canterbury invites applications for a Research Engineer to advance robotics and autonomous navigation across ground, aerial, and underwater platforms. You will bridge academic research with rigorous software engineering, developing algorithms for robotic control and sensor fusion while extending open-source autopilot stacks.

You will publish technical documentation, work with experts in AI navigation, and participate in simulation-based validation to meet exacting

Qualifications

PhD in Computer Science with a focus on Computer Vision is required.
Extensive experience as Software Engineer or Developer Programmer, writing and testing complex code (C++, Python, ROS/ROS2).
Proven ability to document technical programs and procedures.

Responsibilities

Develop cutting-edge algorithms for robotic manipulators, navigation, computer vision, control, and sensor fusion.
Integrate open-source autopilot platforms (ArduPilot, PX4) into robotic systems.
Write, test, and document software; ensure performance in high-fidelity simulations (Unreal Engine, SITL/HITL).
Collaborate with academia and project partners to advance research software strategies.
