Job summary

Pro Auto in Rolleston is seeking an Automotive Electrical & Vehicle Fit-Out Technician. You’ll work on specialist vehicle projects, from emergency services to commercial fleets, with hands-on opportunities and a focus on practical problem-solving.

You may be near end of an apprenticeship or already have experience. A full NZ Driver Licence is required, and you’ll join a supportive team on varied, interesting builds.

Qualifications

• Automotive electrical training or hands-on experience.
• Confident with hand and power tools.
• Strong attention to detail and practical problem solving.
• Willing to learn and broaden skills across projects.
• Must hold a full NZ Driver Licence.
• Able to work as part of a team and take direction.

Responsibilities

• Installations and repairs of automotive electrical systems.
• Assist with specialist and commercial vehicle builds.
• Contribute to 4WD fit-outs and accessories.
• Install lighting, switches, cameras and vehicle technology.
• Handle GPS and communications equipment integration.
• Wire, mount and integrate equipment.
• Assist with air conditioning work.
• Fabrication and vehicle modifications.
• Troubleshoot and fault-find during projects.

Automotive Electrical & Vehicle Fit-Out Technician

Training as an Auto Electrician or recently qualified? Want to work on something a bit different?

Pro Auto is a specialist vehicle solutions business based in Rolleston. We work on everything from emergency service and pilot vehicles through to commercial fleets, 4WDs, communications and specialist vehicle builds.

We're looking for someone with automotive electrical experience who is keen to develop their skills and get involved in interesting, varied hands‑on work.

You might be nearing the end of your apprenticeship, newly qualified, or already have a few years under your belt. You don't need to know everything - we're much more interested in good fundamentals, practical ability, attitude and a willingness to learn.

The work can include:

• Automotive electrical installations and repairs
• Specialist and commercial vehicle builds
• 4WD fit-outs and accessories
• Lighting, switches, cameras and vehicle technology
• GPS and communications equipment
• Wiring, mounting and integrating equipment
• Air conditioning
• Fabrication and vehicle modifications
• Testing and fault-finding

This isn't a role where you'll spend every day doing routine servicing or chasing the same diagnostic faults. There's a lot of building, installing, wiring and problem-solving, with the opportunity to develop experience across some pretty specialised projects.

We're looking for someone who:

• Has automotive electrical training or experience
• Is confident using hand and power tools
• Enjoys practical, hands‑on work
• Has good attention to detail
• Can take direction and get on with the job
• Is keen to learn and broaden their skills
• Holds a full NZ Driver Licence

Experience with 4WDs, fabrication, welding, general mechanical work or vehicle accessories is a bonus, but definitely not essential.
