Job description

Audio-Visual and Technical Specialist

Clinical Skills and Training Department

Health New Zealand Waitematā

Permanent, full-time role (Monday to Friday) based at Whenua Pupuke Clinical Skills Centre

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

About the Role

As an Audiovisual (AV) Specialist Technician with Health New Zealand Waitematā, you will provide hands‑on technical support for AV systems across multiple district sites. Your work will directly enable high‑quality teaching, training, simulation, meetings, and hybrid events in clinical and education environments.

You will install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot a wide range of AV technologies including projectors, LED displays, cameras, microphones, speakers, control systems (e.g. Crestron), and video conferencing platforms. You’ll act as the first responder for AV issues, provide live event support, perform preventative maintenance, manage equipment inventory, support procurement, complete firmware and system updates, and maintain clear documentation.

This is a varied, multi‑site role requiring strong technical capability, responsiveness under pressure, and a commitment to reliability, safety, and service excellence.

About Us

Health New Zealand Waitematā provides health services to approximately 650,000 residents of the North Shore, Waitakere, and Rodney areas. It has the largest population of any district health area.

The Simulation and Clinical Skills Education Department plays a key role in building a confident, capable health workforce across the district. This position is primarily based at both Whenua Pupuke Waitemata Clinical Skills Centre located at North Shore Hospital and Awhina Waitakere Simulation Centre located at Waitākere Hospital. The team delivers simulation‑based education, clinical skills training, and interprofessional learning that supports safe, high‑quality patient care.

Our facilities include purpose‑built simulation suites, teaching spaces, and integrated audio‑visual systems that enable immersive learning, debriefing, and hybrid education delivery.

We are committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and to fostering culturally safe learning environments that reflect the needs of our communities. Working collaboratively with clinical services, education providers, and regional partners, we support innovation in health education and continuous improvement in practice.

About you

You are an experienced AV or technology support professional with at least 3 years hands‑on experience in a complex, multi‑site environment such as healthcare, education, or corporate settings.

You will bring:

  • An NZQA Level4 qualification (or equivalent) in AV, IT, electronics or a related field, and a full NZ driver licence
  • Proven experience installing and supporting integrated AV systems, video conferencing (e.g. Zoom, Teams, Cisco), streaming platforms, digital signage, and audio equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across control systems (e.g. Crestron), signal flow, Wi‑Fi connectivity, and AV/IT integration
  • Experience providing onsite support for live events and hybrid meetings
  • Confidence performing firmware updates, maintaining documentation, and supporting asset management processes
  • The ability to work independently, communicate clearly with non‑technical users, and stay calm under pressure
  • Higher‑level qualifications, Crestron or AVIXA certifications, and video production/editing experience (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects) will be highly regarded

Most importantly, you are proactive, detail‑focused, and committed to delivering reliable, fit‑for‑purpose AV services that support learning, communication, and clinical excellence.
