Job summary

NZTA | Waka Kotahi is seeking a Senior Asset Management Engineer to shape the long-term performance of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. You will lead asset planning, renewals and investment programmes, applying best-practice asset management and structural expertise to ensure safe, reliable, and optimised outcomes.

You will develop forward works programmes, contribute to funding documentation, and collaborate with internal teams, consultants and stakeholders to strengthen bridge asset management

Qualifications

• Experienced civil/structural engineer with 8+ years in structures asset management or construction of structural assets.
• Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles, deterioration, repair and maintenance approaches.
• Ability to develop forward works programmes and long-term asset management plans.

Responsibilities

• Lead asset management and investment decisions for major transport structures.

• Prepare technical reports, funding documentation and project briefs.

You will also lead the development of asset management strategies, technical reports, funding documentation and project briefs that support evidence-based investment and engineering decisions.Working within the Auckland System Management Alliance, you will collaborate with internal teams, structural engineering specialists, consultants, suppliers and external stakeholders. You will direct renewal investigations and design activities, monitor construction works, and apply global best practice to help strengthen bridge asset management capability across the Auckland network.This is a highly influential technical role offering the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to the safety, resilience and performance of the Auckland Harbour Bridge.You can find out more about the role here: Position DescriptionKo koe tenei | About youYou will be an experienced civil or structural engineering professional with at least eight years' experience in structures asset management or the construction of structural assets, and a proven ability to provide technical leadership and expert advice across complex infrastructure environments.You will be comfortable working in a complex operational environment where safety, quality, risk and long-term value are central to decision-making. You will also bring a collaborative approach and a commitment to sharing technical knowledge and building trusted working relationships.In addition, you will bring:Demonstrated asset management and engineering experience within transport infrastructure, ideally involving bridges or other major structuresStrong knowledge of structural engineering principles, asset deterioration, condition assessment, repair and maintenance approachesExperience developing forward works programmes and long-term asset management plansThe ability to analyse complex technical information and translate it into practical asset strategies and investment recommendationsExperience managing budgets and financial forecasts for infrastructure maintenance and renewal programmesStrong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence and negotiate with technical and non-technical audiencesExperience in infrastructure contract management and programme delivery.Qualifications:A degree in Civil or Structural EngineeringChartered Professional Engineer status, or progress towards CPEng or an equivalent professional membership, is preferredA full NZ driver licence.Mo matou | About usThe Auckland System Management Alliance is a partnership between NZTA and partners.
