Job summary

The University of Auckland is seeking an Associate Finance Business Partner to join the Faculty of Arts and Education. You will partner with academic schools and operational teams to provide high-quality reporting, analysis and advice that drives performance and supports strategic goals.

This permanent, full-time role focuses on budgeting, forecasting, long-term planning and improving financial understanding across the Faculty.

Qualifications

• Experience in Management Accounting or senior stakeholder engagement with continuous improvement projects.
• Demonstrated knowledge of accounting best practices.
• Experience using Power BI or similar performance reporting tools.
• Solutions-focused with initiative and collaborative approach.
• Strong analysis and financial modelling to support senior management.
• Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with ERP systems (PeopleSoft/Workday).
• CA/CPA qualification preferred but not essential.

Job Description

We are seeking as Associate Finance Business Partner to join the Faculty of Arts and Education.

You will partner with academic schools, that include Creative Arts, Education, Humanities, Social Sciences and Te Wananga o Waipapa, and operational teams to provide high quality reporting, analysis and advice that drives performance and supports strategic goals. This role combines technical expertise with collaboration, helping shape budgets, forecasts and long term plans while improving financial understanding across the Faculty.

Key responsibilities include:

• Support budgeting, forecasting and long term planning processes
• Deliver accurate financial insights, reports and analysis to support strategic goals and KPIs
• Build strong relationships and understanding of key business drivers
• Collaborate on operational and strategic initiatives across faculties
• Improve financial literacy and enable informed decision making
• Ensure compliance with University finance policies and contribute to continuous improvement

This is a permanent, full-time role (37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday).

You are a trusted finance professional who combines strong technical expertise with the ability to influence, challenge and partner effectively with senior stakeholders. You understand complex organisations and are comfortable balancing local priorities with broader organisational goals.

You bring strong commercial judgement, a collaborative mindset and a genuine interest in helping leaders make informed decisions.

You will bring:

• Previousexperience in Management Accounting or experience in a similar role where you have had engagement with senior stakeholders and led continuous improvement projects while demonstrating knowledge of accounting best practices.
• Demonstrated knowledge of accounting best practice.
• Experience using Power BI or similar performance reporting tools
• Be solutions focussed, have strong initiative, and a collaborative approach.
• Thrive on analysis and financial business modelling to support senior management.
• Advanced excel skills are a must, with confidence using large ERP systems such as PeopleSoft and Workday.
• Being a Chartered Accountant (member of CAANZ, CPA or equivalent) is preferred but not essential.
