Location: Wellington Regional Hospital

Contract: Permanent, Part Time 0.8 FTE Rostered and Rotating (M-F:1300- 2130, Weekends: AM & PM)

About the Role

Exciting Career Opportunity - Associate Charge Nurse Manager (ACNM), SAPU

We are seeking a motivated and experienced nursing professional to join our Surgical Admission and Planning Unit (SAPU) team as an Associate Charge Nurse Manager (ACNM). This is an excellent opportunity to advance your career and professional development in a dynamic and supportive environment.

As the ACNM, you will play a key role in supporting clinical leadership and overseeing the effective management of people, systems, processes, and resources to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality service delivery across SAPU. You will work in close partnership with the Charge Nurse Manager and the Operations Manager for Surgical Services.

A central focus of this role is to facilitate the acute surgical patient flow - supporting patients referred from the Emergency Department or the community who require diagnostic testing, assessment, treatment, surgery, and short-stay admission. You will collaborate closely with surgical specialties and broader hospital services to ensure a smooth and timely patient journey.

About the Team/Service Location

SAPU is currently located in Ward 4 South and comprises 8 beds, 4 chairs, and 2 assessment rooms. We operate in a fast-paced, acute care environment dedicated to assessment, planning, treatment, and short-stay admissions.

Our team of Registered Nurses is small, close-knit, and made up of enthusiastic, passionate, and adaptable professionals. We place a strong emphasis on teamwork and are committed to working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver the best possible health outcomes for our patients and their whānau. SAPU also works in close partnership with other hospital departments to enhance patient flow across the facility.

About you

We are looking for a candidate who brings a strong clinical background and leadership capabilities to this role. Ideally, you will have:

  • Proven experience as an Acute Flow Coordinator
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the operational aspects of SAPU and Surgical Services
  • A minimum of 3 years - experience in surgical or acute nursing
  • A proactive, flexible, and efficient approach to work
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to support and guide a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • A commitment to quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based clinical practice
